Solved: Installing Acrobat DC 32-bit on a 64-bit machine 12655343
For example, you have to download the 64-bit version–it’s not an option during install. These are just small examples of what I am finding. As you can see the product Adobe Acrobat DC is installed so I assume that is a paid version. The weird thing about it is the source path calls out «Adobe Reader» so I guess that’s the confusing part. Also on most machines the Reader and DC are installed with the same version number.

I can see in the file’s properties it was created using the iText pdfHTML library, and the application name that created it is blank, so I doubt it was created by Acrobat. I have been having problems recently (Since 01 JAN 2025) with Adobe Acrobat DC on Windows 11. Everytime I would try to open up Acrobat, it would freeze up and give me an error message. Now suddenly upgrading og installing Adobe Acroabt DC via CC uninstalls!
During the installation, «Progress is slower than usual. Working on resolving issue …» appeared. Task Manager reported the setup process was using an excessive amount of system resources. On Windows, the 32-bit is the default as far as I can see. I uninstalled the 64 bit version and used the Creative Cloud app to install Acrobat again.

The 32 bit version installed by default. Assuming you are on Windows, this behavior changed shortly after my post of March 2022. The CC app now installs the 64-bit version by default. Is this an issue with a particular PDF ile or with all the 22bet app PDFs?

Adobe Arobat Reader 32-bit from our systems with no warning or prompt. I didn’t have to restart my computer, but sign out of the CC app. Either way, I assume the CC app is scanning installed apps.
For the rest of the programs that are consuming too much CPU processing you may set the priority to «Low» and the affinity only to one core CPU. If your CPU have multiple cores, Microsoft Windows assigns all the available cores to every program by default. We recommend to download Adobe app installers from adobe.com pages only. You can download the latest Acrobat installer by going to adobe.com, signing in with your account and then downloads.
I’m having the same problem, just started a new job that has me working on PDF’s all day, every day so you can imagine the amount of frustration I have. Got a brand new Thinkpad with i5 processor, 16 gb ram and Win 11 Pro. Same old «unresponsive» and spinning wheel each and every time I open the app and each and every time I open any PDF doc. This includes those I create myself, created by others, and even downloaded bank statement PDFs. Fortunately, the Microsoft Windows provides some tweaking tools to manage stubborn background programs’s.
If you don’t, and since Adobe doesn’t sell this version any longer, then anything you find should be regarded with extreme caution. You’re very likely to end up with not just an illegal version, but also with viruses/malware/ransomware/etc. Acrobat’s AI Assistant now supports cloud files with a persistent chat history across multiple documents. This behaviour is also now happening in my Enteprise Enviroment in Norway.
